Hello!
Mr. Clark here!
What you need to know about me:
I teach 7th and 8th grade science, along with some life skills as well. I graduated from MES in 2008 and then from OTHS in 2012. I then went on to Olivet Nazarene University where I would receive my undergraduate in Biology. After, I went on to Liberty University to receive my Masters in Teaching: Secondary Science with honors. I grew up in Marseilles. I came back to make an impression just like the teachers made an impression on my life and to encourage students to be adventurous, ask questions, grab a kayak, and go explore this big beautiful planet we call Earth.
Two Truths and a Lie:
1. I have stood on 4 states at once.
2. I have climbed to the top of the tallest Mountain in Alaska.
3. I have dissected a human brain.
The Curriculum:
The middle school science curriculum we use is based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This year I am excited to introduce students to some new content from Amplify Science. Amplify Science uses online resources such as scientific articles, videos, games, and other activities to engage students throughout their learning. The students will also have a hard copy book that will be kept in the classroom and used when they are not working on their computers. Amplify uses stories, examples, and real world problems to introduce NGSS standards that will build upon each other throughout their middle school science journey. It is my hope that this program allows the students to ask questions without the fear of failure, to fail (yes I know, crazy) but to figure out why they failed, and to help students understand the content better than when they were first introduced to it.
Material Covered in the Curriculum:
- Light Waves
- Matter and Energy in Ecosystems
- Metabolism
- Microbiome
- Earth's Changing Climate
- Populations and Resources
- Natural Selection
- Chemical Reactions
- Evolutionary History
- Phase Changes
- Traits and Reproduction
- and much more.
